Who influences you graphically?

I always been fascinated by different things. From Die Brucke xylography to the 80’s American punk hardcore lp covers and concert flyers passing through Jean Cocteau and Hugo Hoppener’s works. I’m really interested in bold graphics or the ones with a bittersweet charm.

Giovanni Battista Piranesi inspires me everyday, someone special gave me a precious print of Campo Marzio which I had been looking for for ages.  I do appreciate also Claude-Nicolas Ledoux, John Hejduk, Joost Baljeu and all the architects from the Italian postmodern group as Aldo Rossi and Superstudio.

What are the implications and objective of juxtaposing architectural ‘monuments’ with fiction characters?

My work embraces an essential satirical component in contrast to the rigidity of architecture. I always try to treat contemporary topics, in a critical way through my drawings. The presence of fictional characters taken from horror movies from the 50s, idols or stylized people are the medium by which I achieve a utopian and mischievous critic.

You chose to frame each image with a white border, what is the reason behind this?

It gives breath to strong images.

What was the reasoning behind the choice of a monochromatic palette?

I have always been fascinated by different disciplines. My greatest passion is analogue photography, I do love black and white photos.

I associate black and white to the surreal work by Man Ray or the nostalgic romance of Frank Horvat or even to the refined uneasiness of Diane Arbus. Working with a monochromatic palette is my way to freeze the time in a surreal, but still romantic, moment in my images.


Jacopo Nori graduated from the Politecnico of Milan in July 2015 with a thesis which investigated the issues of informal architecture in Milan, ‘Infrasquat’ . Along with his architectural studies in September he completed an itinerant master degree in Museum Design, Architecture and Archeology, Accademia Adrianea. Currently he is collaborating with Architect (Milan). During his studies at Politecnico di Milano he worked for different firms as OBR (Open Building Research), Viapiranesi Srl and B22.

In 2015 Jacopo was selected to participate in the Exhibition 02 | 06 with different Italian architects as Branzi, Ugo la Pietra and Franco Purini  held by the gallery of architectural drawings Tulpenmanie. In the same year he was published on Architectural Review, September 2015, 1411 Volume CCXXXVI.

His interests move from graphic design to analogue photography. He keeps on developing his skills as a freelance.
